Carry the gospel, by means of the Church, to every man, woman and child, with a single eye to the glory of God…
Lord Shaftesbury, CPAS founder, 1836.
Our four aspirations which direct our work and which we are praying for churches:
a chance to explore Jesus
a courageous witness
a catalyst for evangelism
a pathway to faith
Missionally Focused
The founders of CPAS were inspired to ‘take the gospel to everyone’s door with a single eye to the glory of God.’ We continue to serve the mission of Jesus in our fast‑changing culture through a focus on equipping local churches and Christian residentials for contemporary mission.
Graciously Engaged
As an Anglican evangelical mission agency, we are committed to the historic Christian faith, revealed in Scripture and centred on the life‑transforming gospel of Jesus Christ. We aim to use our opportunities for influence to foster this faith entrusted to the church, and work graciously with all.
Boldly Innovative
CPAS has a track record of creating high‑quality resources to support effective Christian leadership in local churches and on Christian residentials. We want to be agile in creating well‑timed and innovative contributions which address the needs and opportunities which will face the church of the near future.
Courageously Hopeful
Because the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is at work in the church today, we respond to challenges with honesty and with a confidence that is founded in our resurrection faith. We aim to be a non‑anxious presence, enabling Christian leaders who encounter us to face their pressures with renewed hope and courage.
CPAS is one of the key organisations shaping the future of the UK church. Its residential holidays influence the lives of thousands of young people each year. Its leadership training and patronage work are shaping the current generation of church leadership.
CPAS’ role in the UK is unique, long-standing and influential within the Church of England and its evangelical constituency.
Trustees are seeking to identify who God is calling to join them on the board of CPAS. This is an opportunity to lead, in a non -executive role, an historic and well-regarded organisation through the next phase of its journey and to impact the UK church for Christ.
Jesus was clear that part of his earthly calling was ‘to seek and to save the lost’ (Luke 19:10). Those who founded CPAS in 1836 shared a conviction that a primary calling of local churches is to enable those who are far from Christ to be reconciled to him, and that CPAS could help resource churches to that end.
Christian witness today can feel like an uphill challenge since the narratives of contemporary culture often appear to be out of step with those of Scripture. Yet the gospel remains good news for all people.
CPAS continues its calling to work with churches and leaders to help them share the gospel afresh in each generation. Our current ministry involves the oversight of Venture and Falcon holidays, appointing evangelical clergy to our patronage parishes, and training, resourcing and supporting leaders for mission and evangelism.
