Introduction
Introduction

Bible Society is seeking to appoint three new Trustees to its Board; a Treasurer, a Chair of the People & Remuneration Committee, and a Trustee with expertise in digital, technology, AI and innovation. These are the first appointments in a new phase of Board recruitment, agreed by the Nominations Committee, which will also see further Trustees recruited over the coming years as long-serving members complete their terms.

Bible Society’s vision is a world where everyone trusts the Bible and encounters its life-giving power.

As part of the United Bible Societies fellowship, Bible Society is active in around 240 countries and regions, supporting Bible translation, publishing and distribution so that people can encounter the Bible in their heart language. At home in England and Wales it works interconfessionally, alongside churches of every tradition, and across schools, politics, the media and the arts to help people discover the value of the Bible. Its work ranges from resources that help churches engage more deeply with Scripture, to Theos, the faith and society think tank, to creative projects such as The Climb documentary series, and a distinctive programme of work in Wales and the Welsh language. Bible Society is honoured to have His Majesty King Charles III as its Patron.

These roles are central to the effective governance of Bible Society. The Treasurer leads the Board's oversight of the Society's financial health, controls and risk management across an organisation with a complex, multi-entity financial structure. The Chair of the People & Remuneration Committee leads the Board's oversight of organisational culture, people strategy and remuneration, at a time when Bible Society continues to invest in its people and navigate a changing world.

We are looking for individuals who bring deep professional expertise in finance or people leadership and organisational development, alongside a spiritually mature Christian faith, sound judgement, and the confidence to both support and constructively challenge the Board and Executive. We warmly welcome applications from Christians of all traditions. Given the Board's ambition to maintain its denominational balance, we would particularly welcome interest from candidates who are members of the Anglican Church.

The Treasurer and People & Remuneration appointments are being made well ahead of planned committee chair retirements. The current chairs of both committees have around two years remaining in their terms, so these roles are not immediately vacant. Successful candidates will join the Board as Trustees and serve on the relevant committee, with a planned transition period of around two years before formally taking on the chair. This gives time to get to know Bible Society, its people and its governance at a manageable pace. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future governance of a 200-year-old charity at a pivotal moment in its mission.
